GREATER ESSEX COUNTY DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD

POLICY: CHAMPIONS FOR EDUCATION AWARDS PROGRAM

2005 04 20

Each year, individuals and organizations in our community devote thousands of hours and hundreds of dollars in support of our public schools. This much needed and valuable support significantly enriches our learning environments and positively impacts on students in the classroom. As a means of acknowledging and paying tribute to the people and organizations who support public education, the Greater Essex County District School Board shall recognize the commitment by volunteers through an awards program. This awards program shall include a Volunteer Service Award as a means of recognizing continuous service of volunteers, and a Champions for Education Award for outstanding achievement for voluntarism.

"Kim has been the President of Oakwood's Home and School for the past six years and has been active in the organization for the last ten years. Mrs. McKinley was also a founding member of Oakwood's School Council and remains an active participant in this council. Kim works tirelessly on behalf of the students. She puts in many volunteer hours at the school. She has run the school's major fundraiser for the last six years. At the beginning of each school year she creates a budget and works to raise the money for teaching resources, field trips, school improvement incentives, sports teams uniforms, arts productions, and special assemblies. It has been partly due to Kim's work that Oakwood is known as "The Little School with a Big Heart". Her organizational skills are outstanding and she has been a valued partner in education."
